First Doctors Visit

Carter had his first check up...doctor says he's lookin good!

CARTER DUANE SCOTT

Last Friday after work my feet were unusually swollen so I decided to call the doctor. He told me to go into labor and delivery to get some tests done to make sure everything was okay. When we got there they took my blood pressure and immediately decided to induce me. We were put into a delivery room around 7pm and the induction process was started. Every time I would have a contraction Carter's heart rate would drop into the 70's. They closely monitored me and him, then around 8:00 am Saturday morning my doctor decided that it would be best if we did a c-section. At this point I was all for it because I was over the painful contractions...I just wanted drugs to stop the pain. Around 9:30 we went into the operating room and my c-section began. It was a weird feeling, they gave me a shot in my spine and I was instantly numb. At 10:10 we heard the cry of our little baby for the first time! I'll never forget that! I couldn't see anything but I could hear him! Jamaal went in with him to the recovery room while they stitched me up. Then about at 10:30 I got to see my baby boy and hold him for the first time. Turns out the cord was wrapped around his neck so every time I had a contraction the cord would tighten causing his heart rate to drop....poor guy! I'm glad we got him out when we did!! Parenthood is wonderful! We are learning something new every day!!

Poor Jamaal

Jamaal has been playing in a basketball league and apparently basketball is a very dangerous sport. One day at practice a guy on his team elbowed him in the face during a play. He ended up breaking his cheek bone in 3 spots. We went into the hospital to have surgery and we were told that it would be an outpatient one, boy were we wrong! He ended up having to stay in the hospital. He had two drains coming out of his head for a couple of days and he still has about 50 staples in his head. They had to cut his head from ear to ear, pull down his face and replace his cheek bone with a titanium plate!! The swelling is finally going down and he is doing better!! The staples come out on Monday! Poor Jamaal!!!
